That is an excellent question and one that I am sure many people have regarding their tie-down straps. Quite often people buy tie-down straps and use them maybe a handful of times throughout the year. You can still install the tie-downs, but since the installation hardware used for the BoatBuckle G2 Tie-Downs # IMF14220 is 3/8 inch in diameter, the 1 inch transom strap holes on your trailer will be too large to install these tie-downs.

The strap on RodBuckle Retractable Fishing Rod Tie-Down Strap # IMF14200 needs to pull out straight from the mounting bracket or it can get bound up and also could wear out the strap. Technically you could mount it flat but you run the risk of it not performing correctly or damage to the strap.

In order to use the BoatBuckle Kwik-Lok Gas Tank or Battery Box Tie-Down Strap, # IMF05343, you will want to attach the 2 included footman loops with the stainless steel screws to your boat.
